Re-Enabling Apps On TextNow Phones

If you have a TextNow device you've purchased from us, you may find that some apps have been pre-installed on your device by the phone manufacturer, but are currently disabled.

For example, on an Android Marshmallow device, you'll have a section under your main Settings > Application Manager which will list the applications currently on your device. Keep swiping to the left on that page (or use the drop-down menu on some phones) to get to the Disabled section to see what's been disabled on your phone, like the example below:


If you don't want to enable any of those apps, you can just leave them as is.

If you would like to enable them, you can tap on any of the disabled apps in your Applications Manager and tap Enable on their app page.

You can also enable them via the Google Play Store on your device. If you have an app that's been preinstalled by the manufacturer but is currently disabled, Play Store will prompt you to enable it directly from the Play Store when you search for that app.

    I just purchase phone this week from text now. I received it on Thursday, November 30, 2017. I woke up this morning with the phone repeatedly taking pictures on its own. I could not stop ot so I turned the phone completely off and restarted it. When i restarted it went into safe mode and wouldn't allow me to use any downloads including textnow. I have tried everything but nothing has helped. At this time I have no phone service at all I gave my old phone to my granddaughter. My husband and I are disabled need help immediately cannot be without a phone home alone.

    Hi Diane! Our apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

    This sounds troubling indeed. Let's try to first get out of safe mode by doing the following:

    1. From the home screen, swipe down the Status bar.
    2. Tap Safe Mode Is On.
    3. Tap TURN OFF.

    The device will reboot into normal mode.

    If you're still experiencing issues with the camera or anything else past that point, you can try a factory reset (which you can find in the phone's settings) , as long as you remember to install the TextNow app from the PlayStore after the phone reboots again!
