@ Marc: Thanks for contacting TextNow Support! If your phone is getting a Sprint 3G/4G signal while off wifi, it will ring for incoming calls and text notifications.

    Hi Corey!

On an iPhone, you may change the notification sound for messages, however, I'm afraid that you can't currently change the notification sound for incoming calls (as that is set by Apple).

To change the message notification ringtone, please follow these steps:

    1. Open up the TextNow app on your iOS device
    2. Click on the top left parallel bars to open up the menu- click on the top right gear icon to open up your settings
    3. Tap on Notification Sound- choose your ringtone :)

Will TextNow allow ringtones to be changed on iPhones?

    Erin TextNow Support

    Hi Christal,

Currently we do not offer a variety of ring tones for calls through the iOS application, however you can change your notification sound for texts through the TextNow Menu > Settings > Notification Sound.

Make sure you keep your application updated in case alternate ringtones is something we are able to offer in the future :)

How Can i set the default ringtone of textnow app as my local sim card's incoming calls and as well as sms notification tone.

  • Avatar
    Erin TextNow Support

    Hi there,

The default ring tone is for incoming calls to your TextNow app only, and you incoming messages will require a different notification tone. This means you will not be able to use your ringtone for both calls and texts.

I have text now app now on iPad and there is no ring for incoming calls, only a notification after I have already missed the call. The call shows up visually but no sound. Unless I am using my iPad when someone happens to call then all incoming calls are missed calls. There is no option under settings to select a ringtone at all, only notification tones.

    Hi Chelsey,

We don't currently have an option to change the ringtone for an incoming call which is why you only have the notification tone option in your settings for incoming messages. Please make sure that you have your Notifications for TextNow enabled in your iPad settings, you'll also need to ensure that the Sound is allowed in your device settings.

To check this, open your iPad Settings > Notifications > TextNow > Allow Notifications (green) and turn Sounds on (green).

Can I turn off and silence the ringtone for incoming calls on my iPhone?

I want to receive a sound notification of incoming text messages but do not want my phone to ring if someone calls my TextNow number. Help!

  • Avatar

    Hi Lex,

You cannot turn off the sound notification for calls and keep the sound notification for texts on at this time. You either need to have them both on or both off. We appreciate the suggestion to offer feature for something like this though, and I'll pass this idea along to our development team to potentially be added in the future!

I was able to figure out how to silence notifications for incoming text messages. However, my phone still rings when receiving incoming calls. I want the calls to ring silently. How do I silent incoming calls? I want my native calls to ring, but I want the ability to put the TextNow calls on silent without having to put all sounds on my phone to silent. Explain to me how to do that. Lastly, I would also like to know if I can have all calls/text to my TextNow # not show me any notification until I log into the app manually to see who has called/text the TextNow number I have. These are two similar, but different inquiries. Please answer both. Thank you.

    Hey there- all good questions!

To silence incoming calls on your Android phone, simply try the following:
    1. Open up your TextNow app's settings- tap on "Calling"
    2. Tap on Ringtone- tap on "System Ringtones"- there should be an option on the tap called "Silent"

With regards to the notifications, you can simply control this in your phone's own settings:

    1. Open up your phone's settings- choose "Apps"
    2. Search for TextNow- until "Notifications", you can disable them.
