How To Update The TextNow App

Our TextNow app is the backbone of our TextNow service, and our developers and engineers are constantly making improvements and adding features. 

If you're having problems with your TextNow service like dropped calls or calls not coming through, the very first step is to make sure your TextNow app is up-to-date:

On Android devices:

  1. Tap on the Play Store app on your device. You may need to sign into your Google account if you haven't already.
  2. Tap on the menu button in the top left-hand corner, and tap on My Apps & Games.
  3. You should find your TextNow app listed under the Installed section if it's a TextNow phone; otherwise you'll find it under All. Tap on it to open the Play Store page for TextNow.
  4. If there's an update available, there will be an Update button on the Play Store TextNow page. Tap on it to update your TextNow App. 
  5. After the update completes, tap Open to reopen TextNow. You may have to sign back into TextNow after the app updates.
  6. You can also set the app to automatically update. Tap on the button with the three dots in the upper right-hand corner and choose Auto Update .

 

On IOS devices:

  1. Tap on the App Store on your IOS device. 
  2. Tap on the Update button in the bottom right hand corner.
  3. Find TextNow on the list, and tap Update to update the app. 
  4. Once the update is complete, tap Open to open your TextNow app.

    My phone won't ring when someone calls. It will just tell me I have a missed call. Can you call me to resolve this on my other phone 7xx xxx xxxx

    Hi.. my phone rings but it will not answer!! How do I answer..it seems like it does not connect if I do connect..:(

    Hey Tami,

    Thanks for letting us know about the trouble you are having.

    Please make sure to swipe the green answer button to the centre of the screen when answering a call to have it properly connect. If the device seems to answer the calls but will just not connect that might be the application acting up on us.

    Try these steps:
    Android Settings > Apps > All (you'll need to swipe from left to right to access the "all" menu) > TextNow > Clear Data/Force Stop

    Once you've completed the troubleshooting steps log back in to TextNow and have someone make a test call to your TextNow phone number. Those calls should be connecting through now.

    Will my text now phone work if my erra does not have sprint as a carrier we only have verizon towers even the other track phones have problems

    Hi Claudia,

    I have taken a look at your account and it looks like you're using an iPhone, is that correct? If so, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the TextNow application onto the device. Once complete test it out and see if that's made a difference.

    I use text now for my personal business. I make alot of calls in my business. When I try to make a call it won't go through. Stating that the call is rejected. Can someone fix this please??

    Hi Deizel,

    If you're getting a message that says Call Rejected, it is likely that the other number has blocked you from calling them. A block cannot be removed from the caller's end, only the person who set up the block can reverse it.

    I would also like to remind you that our service is designed for personal use as opposed to business use, as per our Terms of Use.

    Hi, I could not make calls or receive calls. When I tried to make a call, it automatically disconnect. When I tried to call my textnow number, my phone didn't ring. I _'ve cleared the cache and data already based on your suggestion but it doesn't help. Would you please help me with this issue? Thanks

    Hi there,

    It sounds like the device that you're using your TextNow account on may not have a Wifi connection that is strong enough to support a call. It is also possible that the network has a firewall that is blocking calls, which is normally the case if texts are working but calls are not. You can reach out to us through our live chat portal to get further assistance to determine if this is the case.

    I figured out a way to make and receive calls for those of us having problems with the calls but who can still get data.

    I noticed that when I start up the app with LTE data only I'm unable to make and get calls but, if I turn the WiFi on and make a call, then shut off the WiFi and leave the LTE on I can make and receive calls just fine as long as I don't close the app.

    If you close the app you will have to repeat this process in order to get it to work. You can put the phone to sleep and calls will still work as long as the app is open. Please look into this because it's an app issue its not the Sim cards.
