Speaker & Microphone Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble hearing the people on your call, or the other person on the line is having trouble hearing you, the first step is to determine if the issue is with the hardware of your phone. 

Before you begin, please ensure your volume is turned all the way up in your main Settings app, under Settings > Sounds & Notifications. Then, try these steps:

  • Record a short video with the Camera or a voice recording app and play it.
  • Go to YouTube and play any video.

Ideally, if you record a video or voice recording, it should play back over the phone's internal speaker or headphones. If you record a video or voice recording and it doesn't play any audio back, but YouTube videos play fine, then there may be a problem with your microphone.

If you record a video and it doesn't play back the audio on the speaker, but it does through the headphones, the problem may be with your speaker.

If both the speaker and microphone work, you can refer to this article for further troubleshooting.

In the case of the Moto E, please note that the Motorola Moto E has both the primary and the secondary microphone located on the back of the phone. If you're using a case with your Moto E, the case may be blocking the microphone, which may account for poor audio when speaking.

    to enable voice calling in chrome go to chrome settings privacy content settings microphone mangage exceptions then Adobe Flash Player microphone exceptions are different. Change click change and click on both text now switch it to always allow hit done to save done now u cn make calls of ur pc or mac useing chrome extention app text now

    My phone won't ring trouble hearing.I have been many issues with this phone since I got it...I have a moto g 3 gen..I tried all your trouble tips to no avail...I can't be with out a phone due to medical reasons I'm laying for service but would love me phone to work like u said it would thank you

    Ok, here's the problem , my moto 3rd gen has no sound. I can hear fine on calls, but it doesn't ring, nor does it have sound on a video call. Games and you tube, nothing. I have checked all the settings and all turned on.
    Also, now its saying the SD card is removed, I haven't taken the back off in weeks!
    Please help, I love this phone!

    I have been trying to use your chat since the 1st, even got to the point that I thought my replacement phone was on the way. And havent gotten the phone after waitibg an hour and half for the 5th time I just went from position one to 8. I am unsafe at home and I need a phone please help me. I even tried to buy another phone and the system wouldn't let me. Please my phone is covered under warranty, no physical damage, sent in pictures
