1. Make sure the SIM card has been inserted and you have a wifi network active and available to use.

2. Next, open TextNow, log into your account, and connect to your wifi network.

3. After connecting to wifi, it's time to pick a phone plan! Tap on Choose a Plan...

4. And choose from one of our affordable phone plans!

5. Use your current credit card on your account for future payments, or use a new credit card or gift card!

6. You're almost there! Tap on Connect To The Network...

7. ... and follow the instructions. Note that the MSL code on your device will be different, as each phone has a unique MSL.

8. You're all set! Time to start using your TextNow phone!

Do I need a Sim card for my phone to work without WiFi? Cause that's what I need and I ordered my first month already to my phone and its not working without WiFi,.

    Hi Jason,

Yes you will need to purchase a SIM card or plan to have your service work without wifi.

From what I can see you have the premium version of the free app which removes ads, customizes your voice mail and locks in your number but it is still just the free app and requires a wifi or data connection to function.

My phone stops ne after I put in the into number in on it and says contact carrier who do I contact and why is it doing this

  • Avatar
    Taylor TextNow Support

    Hi Gilberto,

That usually means that the phone hasn't been released or is still locked to your previous carrier. Give them a call to see if they can release the ESN to be used with other providers.

I'm trying to activate my sim card. It has internet access, but I can't make a basic call. Do I have to use the TextNow app as my basic calling?

  • Avatar
    Kristopher TextNow Support

    Hey Jesse,

Thanks for reaching out! We do require you to use the TextNow application when connecting your calls and sending your messages. Give the app and try and let us know if you're having issues with calling!

Okay. Will making basic calls use up data? Since I have to use the app to call and text.

    Hey there Jesse,

If you activate one of our SIM cards, calls and messages do not use data from your monthly high speed amounts. They do require data, but we do not hold that against your monthly allotments. Feel free to go call crazy!

You guys were supposed to send me a cdma not gsm sim card. My phone hasn't worked for 2 weeks!!! I'm furious and I'm about to tell everyone I know not to go here!!!!

  • Avatar
    Valeria TextNow Support

Hey Jade, sorry to hear of the mix-up! It looks like you placed the order yourself through the online checker, so whatever options you chose resulted in a GSM SIM card (such as not choosing "Sprint" as your carrier).

I've sent you an email follow-up to the address on file, so we can look into this in a little more detail, and hopefully find the right SIM card for you!

Does your phone have to be carrier unlocked(i have a t-mobile phone that's not carrier unlocked that i would like to use this sim for)

  • Avatar
    Valeria TextNow Support

    Hey Maurice!

In most cases, yes, it would have to be carrier-unlocked. In your case, since it is a T-mobile device, it does not have to be unlocked! It does have to be off-contract, and in good financial standing, but otherwise, there's a good chance that it's compatible.

To be absolutely sure, simply email us at orders@textnow.com with your IMEI number, so we can confirm!

Im still getting a "mismatched UICC" error code

  • Avatar
    Taylor TextNow Support

    Hi Kealohaopuuwai,

Usually that error means that the SIM card isn't intended for the phone you're using. Contact a live agent via chat in the bottom right corner so they can look into this for you. :)

Hi, I'm fairly Tech Savvy when it comes to my phone my minutes are currently run out but I use an Appalachian wireless CDMA phone that was prepaid but I used a Verizon sim card because frankly Verizon is cheaper in my area because there's only two carriers in my area Appalachian wireless and AT&T and Appalachian will only share with Sprint Verizon obviously and someone else so I know it works but when I read the sights FAQ mentioned something about on the coverage map that I would only in my area it would only cover text & voice now I'm able to use that up and text much easier it took me a little extra figure figuring it out to be able to use voice so that's the only thing that worries me about it I did get burned once before that but that was my fault because the tech told me it might not work and he was right

Honestly I'm thinking about just buying your cheapest plan because I'm almost positive it's going to work that's the only thing that stopped keeping me from it right now and I do mean right now

    Hi Michael,

If you're wanting to know if our service will work with your device, I would highly recommend reaching out to us through our live chat support portal so we can get your device information and check its compatibility for you. Since TextNow is a VoIP service, your phone will need to be compatible with the network we use already or one of our SIM cards that will provide your phone access to the network. Our chat team will be available until 9pm EST tonight!
