@Nina & Brittney: Due to the nature of our service, you'll want to make sure you're sending your message and connecting your calls directly through the TextNow application.

Do I need a Sim card for my phone to work without WiFi? Cause that's what I need and I ordered my first month already to my phone and its not working without WiFi,.

    Hi Jason,

Yes you will need to purchase a SIM card or plan to have your service work without wifi.

From what I can see you have the premium version of the free app which removes ads, customizes your voice mail and locks in your number but it is still just the free app and requires a wifi or data connection to function.

My phone stops ne after I put in the into number in on it and says contact carrier who do I contact and why is it doing this

  • Avatar

    Hi Gilberto,

That usually means that the phone hasn't been released or is still locked to your previous carrier. Give them a call to see if they can release the ESN to be used with other providers.

I'm trying to activate my sim card. It has internet access, but I can't make a basic call. Do I have to use the TextNow app as my basic calling?

    Hey Jesse,

Thanks for reaching out! We do require you to use the TextNow application when connecting your calls and sending your messages. Give the app and try and let us know if you're having issues with calling!

Okay. Will making basic calls use up data? Since I have to use the app to call and text.

    Hey there Jesse,

If you activate one of our SIM cards, calls and messages do not use data from your monthly high speed amounts. They do require data, but we do not hold that against your monthly allotments. Feel free to go call crazy!

You guys were supposed to send me a cdma not gsm sim card. My phone hasn't worked for 2 weeks!!! I'm furious and I'm about to tell everyone I know not to go here!!!!

Hey Jade, sorry to hear of the mix-up! It looks like you placed the order yourself through the online checker, so whatever options you chose resulted in a GSM SIM card (such as not choosing "Sprint" as your carrier).

I've sent you an email follow-up to the address on file, so we can look into this in a little more detail, and hopefully find the right SIM card for you!

Does your phone have to be carrier unlocked(i have a t-mobile phone that's not carrier unlocked that i would like to use this sim for)

  • Avatar
    Valeria TextNow Support

    Hey Maurice!

In most cases, yes, it would have to be carrier-unlocked. In your case, since it is a T-mobile device, it does not have to be unlocked! It does have to be off-contract, and in good financial standing, but otherwise, there's a good chance that it's compatible.

To be absolutely sure, simply email us at orders@textnow.com with your IMEI number, so we can confirm!

Im still getting a "mismatched UICC" error code

  • Avatar
    Taylor TextNow Support

    Hi Kealohaopuuwai,

Usually that error means that the SIM card isn't intended for the phone you're using. Contact a live agent via chat in the bottom right corner so they can look into this for you. :)
