We appreciate your inquiry and are glad to hear you're enjoying our free application!
We cannot port numbers to free accounts because the do run the risk of having their numbers be recycled and we don't want to be responsible for recycling a number that someone may have had for many years. We do offer a porting option for our wireless users, however if you upgrade your daughter to one of our plans, she won't be able to use the data service outside of the US so it may not be worthwhile to get a plan just for the purpose of porting a number.
We will take your feedback into consideration though and perhaps we'll be able to offer an option for premium users to port their numbers to TextNow in the future.
Porting Canadian numbers (in and out)
This service (the free one in particular) is amazing enough that I'd pay for it - it is amazing just how convenient it is to be able to copy paste straight from any app into an SMS message!!
My daughter leaves on Sunday for Europe, where she'll be for the next 10 months and rather than pay her Cellular carrier their usurious rates PLUS $100 a month for the privilege o being able to receive her text messages, the ability to port her number to TextNow for the term, so she could exchange calls and texts is worth some real money to me.
I see where this is an issue for some for a long time. My time horizon is a it closer than that.
How can we convince you to prioritize the concept?

Thanks for the reply - but the concept of recycling a number is fair game for people unwilling to pay for their TextNow service. But that's also why I suggested that a fee which would eliminate that time-out feature might make sense.
To put it in perspective you guys are probably familiar with some of your competitors, like Fongo, who offer this sort of thing, though they limit voice call coverage to major metropolitan areas in Canada (which admittedly provides connectivity to 95% or more Canadians). Their text services are likewise limited to Canada and they charge $10 (Canadian) for 6 months of texting.
TextNow, on the other hand allows calling both Canada AND the US.
The port-in process for Fongo and their PC based Freephoneline services are subject to loss UNLESS you buy VOIP credentials, in which case they suspend the activity requirement for as long as you pay.
They allow porting in and porting out . . . . but again, I'd REALLY prefer to extend the coverage to all of North America and I don't believe that anyone who loses their number through inactivity has anyone but themselves to blame and this can be covered by an terms agreement in the order space.
It will be nice to be able to port-in Canadian numbers even for a fee like Fongo or Freephoneline as mentioned by Bram
I agree with Bram, if the premium is payed for a year, the recycling issue does not apply. It would be very nice to be able to port a number to TextNow Premium.
