Contact Names

Hi y'all, so normally when you click on the "..." in a text, it gives you the option to give number contact names (like changing 712-896-4014 to Emma Smith) and I've done this before, but recently is hasn't been working. I will take the edit the contact name, but when I log out or come back later, the name has turned back to the number. This is really annoying but I'm sure it can be easily fixed since it has worked in the past. I appreciate your help!

Hi Anna,

I'm sorry to hear you've been having issue with your contacts saving. If this is happening on your browser, try clearing the cache and cookies of your current web browser and making sure it's completely up to date. :)

I've tried it with different browsers but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi Anna,

Contacts save to the one particular browser for the free service, so if you're logging in from different locations or browsers they won't transfer over. Is that what you're referring too?

I have tried logging in with different and the same browsers. There are two contacts that it won't save the names of, but I recently saved another one and it worked fine. There is another one that had saved previously for several weeks during logging in and out and then decided to revert back to the number. It's really weird :/

Hey Anna,

Thanks for getting back to us! Sorry that you're having that issue with those specific contacts. :( Have you tried downloading the desktop application we released to see if you can edit them there?

I would prefer not to download the desktop app. Also now I have a couple old number that had been named before that have now reverted back to normal. I guess I could create a new number but that would be annoying.

Hey Anna!

Sorry to hear about these issues, it may be resolved with a simple clearing of the browser's cache. Simply press on "Ctrl + shift +R" while on the messaging screen, and let us know if that helps!

I'm sorry to hear that is the case!

Would you be able to download the app to a mobile device, and try to save the contact to the device itself, so it would sync up with your browser version?

The point of me using TextNow is so it's not on a mobile device.

Hi Anna,

I understand your frustrations and one of the benefits to TextNow is that you should be able to use it seamlessly on a browser or a mobile application. The trouble is, when you're using a browser we don't have as much control over how everything operates, and since this feature is being interfered with, it is likely an external variable being caused by your browser or your device.

If you would be willing to try the mobile application for the purpose of saving your contact's names that may solve the issue, and you wouldn't have to actually use the application beyond that.

Please let us know if you're able to try that and if it works for you.

Textnow is losing the names of my contacts. I browsed this thread and learned to try the desktop app. The problem persists. I would rather keep using text now, as switching over to another app means changing my number. Please tell me how to make contact names stay, so that i don't have to switch.

Hi Justin,

Were you originally using the TextNow Mobile app when you noticed this problem or are you only experiencing it on your browser?

If it's only on the browser, please try clearing your browser's cache and then save the contact names again and see if they're able to save!

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I have created a group text. 4 of the people are in my contact list on my mobile device, I can see their names. but the webbrowser and desktop can not. it appears that I have tohave a conversation with each of these people for the webbrowser, and desktop problem to maintain the contacts name.

Hey LN! Would you be able to head over to our live chat support on textnow.com/wireless (closes at 5:30pm EST), so we can test this out, and open up an escalation if need be?
