Hi Kalan,

Thanks for reaching out to TextNow Wireless support. Our development team is dedicated to improving our devices by bringing the latest software to them. With that in mind we want to roll out the next update as smooth as possible, to heighten the user experience. While we do not have a time line for the Marshmallow update rest assured we are working on bringing this update to our phones in the future.

We do not recommend flashing your TextNow device because it would remove the VoIP network optimizations built into our custom OS. It would also void the 1 year warranty on the device if anything was to go wrong.

If you have any questions or concerns let us know and we will assist as best we can.

I have the same question as Kalan about flashing to Marshmallow on my S6. However, I have already had to flash to the stock Sprint rom once so that I could get my Gear VR to work with my phone. Does that mean my VOIP optimizations are already gone? Which means that flashing to Marshmallow will not really make a difference for VOIP?

Thanks,

Elliot

Received a notification of reply so I figured I'd give my 2 cents:

I've been using the stock Spring ROM since making my original post.  Everything works fine.  I ran across compatibility issues with my Gear VR and a few other Samsung exclusive apps so it was a necessary switch for me.  The Samsung Pay feature still does not work but I gave up on that long ago.

I do not use my phone much for talking so I didn't care about the lacking 'VoIP network optimizations' and I haven't noticed the difference. Because my local Sprint network is mediocre that's my experience with both ROMs.

OTA security patches still come through and everything functions normally so I just decided to stick with this until Sprint releases the S6 Nougat ROM.   Then I'll backup and test that out.

Hi Kalen,

Thanks for reaching out! We appreciate your input. Just a reminder that flashing your device with a custom ROM will void your warranty and remove crucial features of our ROM, as well as potentially cause compatibility issues.

Please let us know if you have any other inquiries. :)
