I'm so tired of this technology malfunctioning

I recieved my Samsung Galaxy S4 yesterday (friday, sept. 9). Today (sat, sept 10) it worked just fine until around 6:30pm when half of the screen blacked out. i've tried removing the battery, resetting it, everything, but only the top half of the screen is functional. I'm quite upset as this isn't the first time textnow hasn't been what it says it is. All I would like is a functional phone I can rely on. I don't know what else to do.
