NEW UPDATE! iOS Calling Integration With Native Dialer

With the release of iOS 10, your TextNow experience just got better!

Instead of a push notification, calls over TextNow will come through on your iPhone's lock screen, making answering calls easier than ever before.

In addition, if the call is running in the background, it will now be visible on the standard green banner at the top of the phone, rather than the previous red banner.

You can get the update on your iOS device by following these steps:

  1. Tap on the App Store on your IOS device.
  2. Tap on the Update button in the bottom right hand corner.
  3. Find TextNow on the list, and tap Update to update the app.
  4. Once the update is complete, tap Open to open your TextNow app.

You can also head on over to our Downloads page to find the latest version available for your device, here: www.textnow.com/downloads

Stay tuned for more improvements to TextNow in the coming months, and thank you for choosing TextNow!

Hi, Gannon:

This update doesn't affect how the TextNow service works; rather it affects how the app is integrated with your IOS device. The free version of the app is still only available over wifi or an existing data connection; it will not provide 3G/4G coverage.

To use your iPhone or Android device with TextNow off of wifi, you can purchase a phone plan! Head on over to the Activate Your Device page on www.textnow.com to see if your device is compatible.

How do I disable my text now calls from showing in the Phone app call history ? I don't wish see text now calls on my iPhone call history. Skype lets you disable this but I don't see this option.

Hi, Amber!

Sorry for the late reply! At the moment, there is no way to prevent the messages from showing up on your iPhone's call history, although you can of course delete them from that history once they're there.

Our engineers are looking at an option to choose to not have TextNow for iOS integrate with the new iOS 10 callkit features, which will be available in an upcoming update.
