Textnow Number porting/Sim card compatibilty/Textnow Phones vs. Store Bought Phones Same Brand

I have a question about porting textnow numbers out what is needed for that process? Also is there a certain sim card that has to be used? Also is it necessary that we would have to buy one of the textnow phones from your website or can we buy that same phone at a local retail store if they have the same brand of that same phone?

Hi Sharday! Let me try to answer these in order:

1. If you want to port a TextNow number out of our service (meaning to use that number with another carrier), then you would need your account and pin number with TextNow, to provide your new carrier with.
From what it sounds like, you're attempting to activate your own phone with our service. In that case, if you're looking to keep using the same TextNow number, you do not need to fill out any porting information. Your same TextNow information will remain.

2. If you want to use your own phone, there will be some cases where it will need one of our own SIM cards, and others where it will not. I won't be able to tell you for sure without knowing what model/carrier/IMEI the phone you're looking to use has.

If you'd like to purchase your own phone, there will be some stipulations for it to be eligible with our own service. It will have to be carrier-unlocked, GSM or CDMA compatible. Again, only true way to find out is through the IMEI number of the phone.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to head over to our live chat support :)

Ok I just wanted to know what happened to the 1800 number you guys had why did it get discontinued? Also I thought that you only work with CDMA compatible phones only, and what carriers do you guys work with what are some of the unlocked GSM or CDMA carriers that you work with? and also as for the phones on your website what carriers are they unlocked to?

We are moving away from live phone support and offering more, prompt chances for assistance through our live chat, video tutorials, and self help portal. If customers still have more pressing technical issues, they can schedule a callback with us.

With regards to the GSM phones, essentially any carrier-unlocked GSM phone will be eligible to be activated with us, regardless of their previous carrier. Now, there will be some special cases where that might be an exception, but that is a good general rule of thumb.

Our own phones that we sell are still Sprint-powered.

Ok because last time when you had the 1800 number I had spoke to a customer service representative and I was trying to port out a number using one of my own phones and he told me that it had to be CDMA compatible and I dont know if he said that you dont work with the GSM compatible phones. So are the phones that you work with on the textnow phones section the only phones/models that you work with?

Not at all! There are many other CDMA and GSM models of phones (that we don't carry) that are absolutely compatible with our service.

Best way to find out would be to contact us directly with the IMEI number of the phone you're looking to activate with our wireless service, so we can do the final check for you.

Ok i have a couple of questions:

1.do we need to have service with the current cell phone carrier in order to port a number out?

2. In order for a textnow number to be active and not get reassigned do we have to make a phone call every 15 days or so or can we send a text message to someone to stay active. Can I send a text message to myself to keep my number active?

3. When you port out a number and it goes through successfully someone had said that it shows up as a landline number so will it still be able to send messages and make calls without the "Message did not go through this is a landline" message if you get what im saying.

Hey Shardray!

1. I'm a little confused: if you're talking about porting a number from another carrier to our service, then yes, the service would need to be active, otherwise, the port will be blocked.

2. In order to keep the account/number active with TextNow, you will need to either send a text or make a call every few days (more often than every 15). You can simply text yourself or call yourself in this case.

3. The "landline" issue only ever really comes up if you're trying to port out a TextNow number to another carrier, and they recognize it as a landline. Otherwise, you should be able to text any other mobile numbers, and vice versa, without any issue.
If you do run into any issue, then we need to fix something on the back-end, most likely.
