Feature request - deleting blocked numbers, blocking by area code, blocking number while

I get a LOT of robocalls from Ohio, but also other midwest and eastern seaboard states. I assume this is due to how TextNow sets up the number thru Sprint,

To make dealing with these calls easier here are some feature suggestions:

1) Add feature to hangup and add calling number to blocked number list automatically with one button while in the dialer - maybe another button that would do this by swiping to the side or dragging something into a trash bin or something like that.

2) Add a feature to block by area code. My previous phone had that feature - it could block by "starts with", but my Samsung 6 doesn't have that.

3) In the text now app, add feature to delete all 'conversations' that are calls where I blocked the number with #STOP

Please give serious consideration to adding features that make dealing with robocalls easier and quicker.

Thanks

Hey Lauren! It sounds like what's happening is that you are receiving calls to your backend number (the one that is listed in your phone's native settings) rather than your TextNow number.

What we could do is simply change that number for you, so you won't have to receive those calls anymore! If you wish to go ahead with this, please email me at community@textnow.com

This is not a new problem. I have been down this road before and it is the one thing that makes me hesitate to recommend TextNow to others. I've had my backend number changed a number of times IIRC. Eventually (maybe pretty quickly?), I get robocalls.

I am not sure how the pool of backend pool of numbers is managed by TextNow or Sprint, but robocallers probably manage to get those numbers too, either by notification/request (carriers, including Sprint, sell the numbers, as do a number of other entities who acquire phone numbers) or just calling each number until they get one that rings thru to a person or voicemail - then they know have a number that is being used.

In short, I seriously doubt changing the backend number will have any long term (or even short term) effect, especially since the chance is high that the number I would be given would not be "virgin", but rather a number that someone else used to have, in which case using that number instead would quite possibly make the situation worse, not better.

What I would appreciate is TextNow supplying features to handle robocalls effectively. Since robocallers can easily and quickly spoof the calling number, I think the most effective would be the ability to block calls by area code, rather than blocking a number one by one. In fact, an even better feature would be a whitelist of area codes; I could just list the few area codes in my geo region (yes, I know they often spoof those too, and yes, I get the infrequent robocall from a local area code, but as you said, I doubt most are calling my real number - they are calling the Sprint number from the midwest).

Please give this request serious consideration.

Thank you for the feedback, Lauren! Your suggestions were passed along to our team on Friday, so that is being considered :)

However, the controls for the calls to the backend number are set by your phone's OS, not necessarily through our service. Another option would be to add that number (found in your settings) to the national "Do Not Call" list
